I believe that this product can benefit from email notifcations. Users should be notified by email (or Active Messages) that certain events have occurred. These events should be:

A new friend request.
A new new comment in the comment module.
A new blog comment in the blog module.

Users should aso have the option to individually allow/disallow each type of notification.
