I have purchased and installed Active Profile.  It is an excellent product.  However, I wish a bit more out of it.

I wish to create a custom module which will display information on each users page.  I notice the following post:

http://www.activemodules.com/Community/Forums/tabid/68/aff/157/aft/44988/afv/topic/Default.aspx

This says I can not create an Active Profile module.  Is this still the case?  I understand they are not DNN modules, but I can create any type of module as I am a well experienced C#.Net developer.  Is there possibly a code template I can start with?

If not, my next idea is to add DNN modules in the panels around the Content Pane which contains Active Profile.  Is there a way for a DNN module on the same page as an Active Profile module to communicate with each other?  All I need from the Active Profile is the user name of the profile being displayed in order for me to find the right data from a DNN module to display.

I thought of just creating a DNN module that fetches the currently logged in users data and displaying it, however, what if the logged in user is viewing another users page?  I want to display the data for the user which Active Profile is displaying data.  Or, in the case where an unregistered user is viewing a public Active Profile page, there will be no logged in user.

Thank for your help, I look forward to all comments from anybody, I need to find a solution to this issue.

Seth

Seth,
The problem is that currently there isn't anyway for you to load your own modules. I'm trying to include a wrapper module in 1.5 that will allow you to load other DotNetNuke modules within Active Profile. This would allow you to create your own modules and also load third party modules that support the UserId context. I will have more details regarding this topic by Monday.

Thanks,
Will

Will -
Any update on that feature, or a new Active Profile release in general?

Steven,

I totally have to agree with you on that and hope that Will is able to provide us with additional feedback on the AP 1.5 update. I expect that this has dropped a spot on the priority list because of the AF 40 release, which makes perfect sense to me!!

I'd wrap in a "My Links" module the day it was released... then onto the different wine cellar modules I'm working on...

If the forumviewer would support UserId i would at least do the following:

  1. Allowing Blogs through AF 40 blog template and show myBlogs;
  2. Allowing attachments throug AF 40 and show myDownloads;
  3. Allowing posts to be show (filtered from forum / all forums) and show myPostings
  4. UVG with myVideo's

I guess we all have our ideas, please share your own thoughts with everyone!!

Marc,
Good ideas. I think we all have plans on hold that become possible with this release.

I would add My Photos (using Ventrian photo gallery) and have some specific goals for calendar apps and groups. If you think about it...opening up MyProfile for their party or homegrown development gives you almost limitless possibilities.

Using AF for blogs and attachments is a really good idea. Hadn't though about that. I guess you would use it as a Wall module as well.

I also understand the UI issues and admin control over Profile is to be improved. I can't wait.

Steven,

I first thougth that I would be using News Articles as the blog module but with Blog template this might become much easier. Furthermore, I am not sure if the latest article is capable of filtering on the UserId token.

The same can be said about Simple Gallery, if the "Latest" module would have this filtering capability I for sure would like to integrate this as well. Do you know if this is possible?

I really like your idea about the wall module. However, I would love to see such functionality get integrated in Active Profile by default. Maybe Will can tell us a bit more about the direction ActiveModules will take this module to.

@Will, could you please provide the community with an update on AP 1.5. I know you are very busy on AF4.0 but hopefully you will be able to provide us with some additional info.

Marc

Marc,
Scott has done some things with latest articles lately that allow user (AuthorID) views. There is nothing for photos yet...but the photo's db has authorid in it so you could roll your own.

I agree that there is really no need to implement articles for blogs when AF can handle it and handled it in a more integrated way. We've been looking into launching an "experts" section using NA but since I started looking at the new templates for AF I think we'll try it that way first. It also makes things easier for a "what's new" or "latest activity" display if all of the latest related content is in one repository.

I would also like to get an update on Profile. Will, Molly, can you take a second to update us on AP?
