if you can pass in a username to a target page with PM on it then yes. there is limited templating capability in the former DNNProfile module. I'm sure ActiveModules is planning a much tighter integration to AF which uses a templating engine very effectively.

Yes.  This is actually a configuration option.   You can choose either MyMessages or Ventrian's Private Messages.  Either one will work fine and you don't need to modify any templates.
