by Will M on 26 Dec 2006 09:42 AM
I just upgraded ActiveModules.com to DNN 4.4. Upgrade was easy and the performance improvements are fantastic.
Thanks,
Will

Hi Will,
Yes, I have upgraded also to 4.4.0 2 hours ago. Apart from some issues with compression all seems well. Thanks!

Hi Will,
There is one thing you can do to speed up your site and that is setting Content Expiration in IIS. That setting is located on HTTP headers that of the properties in your site in IIS. That will prevent round trips for images, stylesheets and javascript to your site and therefor greatly reduce the number of hits. After talking to John and Shaun about they decided to turn this on on dotnetnuke.com. You can use Fiddler to see the difference.
Hope this helped.

Mariette, could you elaborate a bit on the content expiration subject? I read up on it and am a little confused. How do I control that static files like images are cached but content files are not?
Thanks.

Will, thats great to hear !
I wanted to upgrade to DNN 4.4.0 from my current 4.0.3, but my webhost told me I can't move to the latest version without losing my Forum? I am sure he's wrong, but can you clarify what the process is to migrate from 4.0 to 4.4 without losing all my Forums posts?
Really appreciate it,
Salman

Is this a fairly simple upgrade in which you just upgrade on top of the existing installation?

If your host
upgrades
your site then you will be fine. I would suggest requesting a copy of your database before they upgrade.

Yes, very simple and very quick

Jesper,
Well, it is a setting on IIS as I explained. Here is more information on that subject: Using Content Expiration (IIS 6.0):
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/0fc16fe7-be45-4033-a5aa-d7fda3c993ff.mspx
. You can use Fiddler to see if your site has content expiration set to what value or not.
