User Profiles

  • Profile Wizard
The profile wizard replaces the default DotNetNuke registration and allows users to upload a photo and complete the profile with just a few clicks. Profile fields include name, address, contact info, and a brief biography. Users can also add other online profiles, such as Twitter or Facebook to their profiles.
  • Custom Fields
The Active Social profile wizard supports DotNetNuke custom profile fields for customers who wish to add additional profile fields. Search can be enabled for these fields.
  • Activity Journal
Under the Activity tab on a user’s profile page, the user can post to his journal status updates, notes, links, photos, files, RSS feeds, and Events. Each activity has its own icon, making it easy to differentiate between types of journal posts. Users can then comment on each others’ posts.
  • Multi-Purpose Profile
The user profile integrates with Active Forums to display the topics and posts by a user as well as forum statistics for users.
  • Friends
Just like with popular social networking sites, Active Social allows users to add and remove friends.
  • Account Settings
Users can edit their own login and account information, such as username, password, display name, and e-mail. This helps ensure that user information is secure and up-to-date.
  • Privacy Settings
Users can edit their profiles at any time. Drop down menus located next to profile fields allow users to set privacy settings for that information. Options for who can see the profile information include myself and admin, site members, only friends, private, or everyone.
  • Quick and Advanced Search
Allow members to easily find other members using the quick or advanced search options. The site administrator can choose which fields are used within the search criteria and profile privacy settings are always respected.

Messaging

  • Private Messages
Private messages are messages between one or more members of the site. The admin can restrict who can send private messages. Options include: (1) Only allow messages to friends, (2) Only allow to one user at a time, and (3) Allow users to search member list. Messages can be created with plain text or HTML.
  • Notifications
Notifications are system messages from the site or admin, such as “You have a friend request.” The admin can edit e-mail templates to create custom messages used to notify administrators and members about events on the network.
  • Text Suggest
In the message composer, users can begin typing the username of the recipient in the “To” field, and matching members will appear.
  • Spam Controls
Administrators have access to various options to help prevent un-wanted messages being sent to other members.
  • Notifications
Members can choose to be notified via email when they receive a new site message.

Social Groups

  • Group Creation Wizard
The group creation wizard allows users to simply create groups by providing information such as group name and description, type of group, website, image or logo, and instructions for joining the group.
  • Categories
Categories can be created to classify groups. For example, a site could have groups that are business, social, and community service. A site for sports fans could have categories for basketball, football, and soccer.
  • Featured Groups
The site administator has the option to mark particular groups as featured which will allow them to stand out from other groups within the site.
  • Search
Groups can be searched by keyword or alphabetically.
  • Access Control
To provide varying levels of group security, there are three types of groups: (1) Open, anyone can view and join, (2) Closed, anyone can join, but membership must be approved, or (3) Private, in which the group is hidden, and members must be invited.
  • Profile Integration
Once a user has joined a group, it will appear in the “My Groups” box under his profile picture and under the “Groups” tab on his profile page.
  • Forums
Active Forums integrates with groups to allow for group discussions. There are several options here including having an admin defined forum or group of forums, linking a group to an existing forum, and creating a forum when a group is approved.
  • Events
Groups integrate with the events feature so that groups can host events and so that users can invite entire groups to their own events.
  • Activity Journal
Like individuals, groups have a journal to which activities can be posted. These include status updates, links, notes, photos, files, RSS feeds, and events.
  • Subscriptions
Members can subscribe to receive e-mail notifications for the group’s journal activities.
  • Photo Galleries
Only group members can create albums and add photos to a group gallery, and only administrators or the creator of an album can edit the photos.

Photo Albums

  • User and Group Galleries
Photo galleries can be enabled for users as well as groups. Only group members can add albums and photos to a group’s gallery.
  • Settings and Privacy
Users can adjust the settings for their photos to determine (1) who can view the albums, (2) who can view and add comments to the albums, and (3) who can view and add ratings to the albums.
  • Amazon S3 Integration
Amazon S3, or Simple Storage Service, is an online storage web service offered by Amazon Web Services. Active Social integrates with Amazon S3 for storage of image files.
  • Automatic Resizing
The site administrator can choose the various photo sizes to be displayed in the gallery. Photos will be automatically resized when uploaded. This helps the administrator control disk space and bandwidth usage.
  • Multiple Photo Uploads
Users can easily upload multiple files at once and can easily track progress for large files.

Events

  • Group and Individual Events
Active Social allows for events to be enabled for individuals as well as for groups.
  • Event Creation
When an event is created, such details as name, event type, event description, start and end times, and location can be saved. A picture can be uploaded for the event, and the creator can determine who can attend the event. Options include: just me, all, friends, group members, or invite only.
  • Invitations
Members can be selected from a user’s friends list to be invited, or a whole group can be selected to receive an invitation. Non-site members can be invited over e-mail. The event creator can also compose a personal message to send to the invitees. The invitees will receive a notification, letting them know they were invited to the event. They can select their status as attending, maybe attending, or not attending.
  • Guest Management
Easily track guest responses and send reminders with just a few clicks.

Activity Journal

  • Profile Activity
The Profile activity journal can display status messages, new friends, photos, events, files, RSS feeds, forum participation and other social interaction points.
  • Group Activity
The Group activity journal can display status messages from the group and group members, new members, photos, files, RSS feeds, Events, forum participation and other social interaction points.
  • Site Summary
The Site Summary allows members to see a combined view of activity that is related to them from friends, groups and other members.
  • Twitter Integration
When Twitter Integration is enabled, status messages from members and groups will have the option to have their status messages also shared with their Twitter account.
  • Journal Filters
Members can easily limit their desired view of journal content using the journal filters that are part of the Site Summary.
  • Comments
All journal content items allow members to leave comments when enabled by the profile or group owner.

Additional Social Tools

  • Configuration Wizard
Using the Active Social Configuration Wizard, your social community can be fully functional within minutes. The Configuration Wizard will create and configure all the necessary pages in just two clicks. Choose from one of the provided site structures or choose expert mode to setup everything on your own.
  • Feed Manager
Users can easily import feeds from other sites into their journals. Supported feeds include Twitter status feeds, Twitter search feeds, and any valid RSS Feed in either rss 2.0 or xml format.
  • Auto Friend
Help new members get started by setting up an auto friend account. In most cases, this will be the site administrator account. This will encourage new members to immediately get started with site interaction.
  • Auto Group
An additional way to encourage new members to start participating immediately. New members will be automatically added to the Group the site administrator selects.
  • Vanity Names or Custom URLs
Give your members and groups a unique address that is easy to remember and share with others.
  • Welcome Messages
In addition to the standard registration emails, unique welcome messages can be delivered to the user's mailbox on the site. This is helpful for sending additional instructions for completing verified registration and also for sharing some quick tips to help encourage site participation.
  • Comment Notifications
Members that comment on journal items will automatically be notified of any other comments by other members.

Site Design, Look & Feel

  • Template Engine
Because Active Social is 100% template-based, the design and layout is completely customizable. Active Social will match your existing DotNetNuke skin with little or no modifications. An admin can easily create custom tabs and profile fields, and if any of Active Social’s many features will not be used on the site, the admin can easily hide or remove them.
  • Selective Customizations
Active Social's unique template engine allows you to customize only what you need. Instead of creating themes which consist of all templates, Active Social allows you to create themes with only the files that need to be customized. Our robust template engine is designed to provide maximum flexibility while allowing a minimum level of maintenance.
  • Custom Controls
Developers can easily add additional functionality without the need for source code. The Active Social Template Engine supports standard ASP.NET web controls which allows developers to further extend and enhance Active Social to meet their needs.
  • Global CSS styles
Colors, fonts, spacing and various other styles can easily be adjusted for your specific design from one master style sheet.
